off-square
The off-square geometries of the original Victorian house were responded to in plan and section in this kitchen and dining extension. The storage wall undulates to enclose all the working of a family house, while the roof line bends down and back up again to reach out to the light of the garden.
The extension’s contemporary expression is in conversation with the existing house through the materials used; dark render echoes the slate roof; warm iroko timber repeats the tones of the original brickwork. A polished concrete floor is laid inside and out, allowing continuity from interior to exterior.
